Royal Caribbean is known for providing the ultimate in cruising experiences, and their new ship, Oasis of the Seas, is no exception. The Oasis is the largest cruise ship in the world, measuring 208 feet wide, 1,187 feet long and 236 feet tall. To put that into perspective, it’s wider than a Boeing 747, as long as four football fields and rises twenty stories out of the water. The ship can carry over 6,000 passengers and 2,200 crew members. Here are some other facts about the Oasis of the Seas:
-
The ship is divided into seven “neighborhoods” of sort. These are the Youth Zone, where children from infants to teens will be able to attend age-appropriate programming; the Boardwalk, which is modeled after New Jersey’s famous seaside resort, Atlantic City; the Vitality at Sea Spa & Fitness Center where you can become rejuvenated in between activities; the Pool and Spa Zone; the Royal Promenade, which is a huge indoor mall; Central Park, modeled after New York City’s park of the same name, with indoor and outdoor spaces as well as grass and trees; and the Entertainment Place, where the night will come alive with shows and other activities.
-
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can try your skills on two rock-climbing walls or on an 82-foot zipline through the sports zone. You can catch a show at the AquaTheater, where performers put on nightly shows, or see a musical such as Hairspray, which will be playing for the first time on a cruise ship. Ride the carousel on the Boardwalk, enjoy a drink at the Rising Tide Bar, which is the first moving bar on a cruise ship, go skating on the ice rink, or lounge and swim in the first beach pool sailing the seas. In short, there is no shortage of activities to enjoy on the Oasis of the Seas!
-
The accommodations are outstanding. Cruisers have the option of having an ocean view from outer rooms, or an atrium view from the inner rooms. If you need more space, you can sail in one of the ship’s 25 loft-style apartments, which feature two bathrooms, floor-to-ceiling windows, a private balcony, a jacuzzi and a 52-inch flat-screen television. These apartments sleep six, so you can gather up some friends or bring the family along.
Royal Caribbean has truly outdone itself with the Oasis of the Seas! If you have never cruised before, or have never cruised with Royal Caribbean, consider booking travel on this ship. It will set the bar for cruising very high, and you’re sure to have a wonderful, fun-filled time.
